O is for Omaha Performing Arts

title small

You may already know how much I enjoy the theater. Earlier this month I told you about my experience watching War Horse, and in the past I’ve attended La Traviata, The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables and even the Lion King (some of these, multiple times).

Since my love of theater is great and my wallet size is not so great, I don’t always get the chance to see some amazing shows, no matter how bad I want to go. If I could swing it, I would get season tickets to EVERYTHING!

This year, I may have to try going to at least one or two of the shows because the line up for the Omaha Performing Arts for the 2014-2015 season is phenomenal! There are shows that would be perfect to introduce the kids to theater as well.

Here are just a few of the shows you can expect to see in Omaha through the 2014/15 season. Check out the events calendar over at Omaha Performing Arts to see the rest of this amazing line up and don’t forget to get your tickets! Season tickets if possible, that’s what I would do.

November 13 through November 30, 2014, The Radio City Music Hall’s Christmas Starring the Rockettes!  I’ve always wanted to see the Rockettes live!

December 19 through December 21, 2014, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Since Charlie wasn’t old enough to go to War Horse and Belle is her favorite princess, I may just be obligated to take the girls to this. She would LOVE it!

January 27 through February 1, 2015, Camelot.  Really, I don’t think I need an explanation on this one. Of course I want to attend!

February 20, 2015, John Tartaglia’s ImaginOcean. This sounds amazing! Ok, everything in this season’s line up sounds amazing, but this one really got my interest sensors tingling, especially for the kids.

March 3 through March 8, 2015, Pippin. I’ve always wanted to see this, too, now I have the chance! I hope we can make it next year.

Pippin Music Box Theatre
The original Broadway cast of PIPPIN. PIPPIN runs March 3-8, 2015 at Omaha’s Orpheum Theater.

April 24 through April 26, 2015, Mamma Mia! So many people have given me shocked looks when I tell them I’ve never gone to see this, I almost feel it’s something I need to add to my theater bucket list! What do you think?

April 29, 2015, Golden Dragon Acrobats.  I have a soft spot in my heart for acrobats. Beautiful, talented and all around fantastic, this is one of the top on my must see list.

May 15, 2015, Rock Legends with Billy McGuigan. Last but not least on my list. I know this will be a great performance and I hope I can make it to this one too! The show is customized by the audience on the spot, how many shows can offer that?

RL Omaha Performing Arts
Rock Legends with Billy McGuigan will be May 15, 2015 at the 1200 CLUB inside the Holland Performing Arts Center.

Honestly, everything on the 2014-2015 Omaha Performing Arts season is going to be amazing. I had a hard time picking which shows were top on my list. For example, I left out the screening of “Phantom of the Opera” featuring organist Clark Wilson and the performance of the Blue Man Group.  I mean, both would also be exceptional performances, but I’m looking for some new shows to check off my list.

Which performances would you most like to see and why? Tell me in the comments.

Pippin! I’m a musical theater baby! I’ve seen Rent (original cast in NYC), Kiss of a Spiderwoman, The Life, The Scarlet Pimpernel (with Linda Eder!!), Cats, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, and that’s just off the top of my head. I was Cinderella in Into the Woods , Maria in West Side Story and Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof. LOVE musicals (even though I sing opera, could talk about that all day too!) YAY!

You know about the student matinee series that Omaha Performing Arts does, right? If you don’t, check it out! The normally put on 4-6 matinees, condensed to about an hour to be kind to the wee ones. Only $4/kid, $10/adult. And sign up for Student Rush also! Students get last minute tickets for $10 (and can bring along an adult for the same price). Can’t wait for this season!

Oooooh! I didn’t know about that. I think I may have another blog post coming. Time to talk to my Omaha Performing Arts contacts! Thanks for the heads up!
